Controversy Follows Me :)

So as all of you may know, I vented a little frustration on Facebook the other day and it started a HUGE hornets nests.  You don't realize the power of Facebook till ya do that!  I appreciate the support very much too.

This is what is going on.  A few ladies in town decided that the girls needed to be dressing more modestly at dances at the High School.  I have no problem with that....nobody wants to see any wardrobe malfunctions.  So they did some research and decided to follow another high schools dance dress code and presented it to the community council at the high school back in October...and this is where my problem with this starts....with no other input from any other parent.  It passed without any other parent speaking up or even knowing about this.
So the day before school gets out for Christmas break - December 20th, the principal called the junior girls in to give them the new guidelines for the Prom.  I understand about 20 showed up and was given a paper to take home to their parents.   The Delta High Junior Prom is on March 17th.  Alot of girls have already been asked and bought dresses before this paper was handed out. Now they have to spend more money and get their dresses altered if they bought a dress that is not within the guidelines.

The new guidelines for the Junior Prom and all other formal dances are:
Girls:
No strapless dresses, 3" straps in width, No backless, halter-style, plunging necklines or spaghetti straps and at least knee length

Boys:
Dress Slacks are required, no levis, collared dress shirts & ties, appropriate dress shoes
(This means no black wranglers and cowboy boots that is really popular with the cowboys here)

Below is a picture of 12 girls from last years prom.  These girls are cheerleaders, athletes, leaders in school - cream of the crop at Delta High.  They all look classy and fabulous in my opinion.
Only 1 dress would be within the guidelines of the new dress code this year.
So is this new dance dress code to extreme?
Yes, I think it is.
If there needs to be a dance dress code, then lets decide together what it should be.  We don't need to follow any other high school...lets do one for Delta High that everyone can agree upon.
